0-60 MPH Calculator
Estimate your vehicle 0-60 mph time based on weight and horsepower.
Uses the common power-to-weight approximation formula.
0-60 mph time can be estimated using the power-to-weight ratio. This uses a widely cited approximation formula:
0-60 time (seconds) = (Weight in lbs / Horsepower)^(1/3) × 5.825
The formula uses pounds (lbs) for weight. If you enter your vehicle weight in kilograms (kg), the calculator automatically converts it to pounds (1 kg = 2.205 lbs) before applying the formula.
This formula works as a reasonable estimate for most passenger vehicles but does not account for:
- Drivetrain type (AWD is faster off the line than RWD/FWD)
- Traction and tire grip
- Transmission type (manual vs. automatic vs. DCT)
- Turbo lag or power delivery characteristics
Typical 0-60 times by category:
- Economy cars: 8–12 seconds
- Family sedans: 6–8 seconds
- Sports cars: 4–6 seconds
- Performance cars: 3–4 seconds
- Supercars: under 3 seconds
