Net Referral Value

Referral program value helps you determine how much each referral is actually worth after accounting for rewards and conversion.

Net Value per Referral = (Conversion Rate × Customer LTV) − Referral Reward

Program ROI = (Total Revenue from Referrals − Total Reward Cost) / Total Reward Cost × 100

Referral program benchmarks:

  • Referral conversion rate: 3–5% of customers refer
  • Referred customer conversion: 10–30% (3–5× higher than cold leads)
  • Referred customers have 16–25% higher LTV

Common reward structures:

  • Cash: $10–$50 per referral
  • Credit/discount: 10–25% off
  • Two-sided rewards (referrer + referee): Most effective

Example: If LTV = $500, conversion = 25%, reward = $25: Net value = (0.25 × $500) − $25 = $100 per referral
