Brick Calculator

Calculate how many bricks and how much mortar you need for a wall based on dimensions and brick size.

Bricks & Mortar Needed

Brick count is calculated from wall area divided by the face area of a single brick (including mortar joint).

Bricks = Wall Area / (Brick Length × Brick Height) (with mortar joints)

Standard brick sizes (with 3/8 in or 10 mm mortar joint):

  • Standard: 8 × 2.25 in (203 × 57 mm) — ~6.75 bricks/sq ft (~73 bricks/m²)
  • King: 9.75 × 2.75 in (248 × 70 mm) — ~4.8 bricks/sq ft (~52 bricks/m²)
  • Queen: 9.75 × 2.75 in (248 × 70 mm) — ~4.8 bricks/sq ft (~52 bricks/m²)

Mortar estimate:

  • Standard bricks: ~7 bags (70 lb) per 1,000 bricks
  • King/Queen bricks: ~8 bags (70 lb) per 1,000 bricks

Imperial: Length and height in feet, area in square feet. Metric: Length and height in meters, area in square meters.

Always add 5–10% extra for breakage and cuts.
