Caulk Calculator

Calculate how many tubes of caulk you need based on joint length, width, and depth.
Supports imperial and metric units.

Caulk Needed

Caulk needed is based on the volume of the joint to be filled.

Joint Volume = Length × Width × Depth

Tubes Needed = Joint Volume / Tube Volume

Standard caulk tube sizes:

  • Standard cartridge (10.3 oz): covers approximately ~25 linear feet of a 1/4" × 1/4" bead
  • Squeeze tube (5.5 oz): covers approximately ~13 linear feet of a 1/4" × 1/4" bead

Caulk bead sizes:

  • 1/8" wide × 1/8" deep: ~100 linear feet per tube
  • 1/4" wide × 1/4" deep: ~25 linear feet per tube
  • 3/8" wide × 3/8" deep: ~11 linear feet per tube
  • 1/2" wide × 1/2" deep: ~6 linear feet per tube

Types of caulk:

  • Silicone: Best for bathrooms, kitchens (waterproof)
  • Latex/Acrylic: Paintable, good for interior trim
  • Polyurethane: Strongest bond, good for outdoor use
  • Butyl rubber: Best for gutters and roofing

Tips:

  • Always add 10–15% extra for waste and learning curve
  • Cut the nozzle at 45° for the cleanest bead
  • Use painter’s tape for crisp lines
