Shower tile calculations:
Wall Area = Perimeter × Height
Subtract = Shower Door/Opening Width × Height
Add Niche = (Niche Width × Niche Height × 2) + (Niche Width × Niche Depth × 2) + (Niche Height × Niche Depth × 2)
Total Tile = Wall Area - Door Opening + Niche Interior + 10–15% Waste
Standard shower dimensions:
- Shower width: 36–60 inches (91–152 cm)
- Shower depth: 36 inches (91 cm)
- Tile height: 72–96 inches (183–244 cm) (to ceiling is increasingly common)
Niche standard size:
- Width: 12–16 inches (30–40 cm)
- Height: 24–28 inches (61–71 cm)
- Depth: 3.5 inches (9 cm)
Add 15% waste for cuts around corners, niches, and fixtures.
