Recipe Cost
Recipe cost is calculated by finding the per-unit cost of each ingredient and multiplying by the amount used.
Ingredient Cost = (Store Price / Store Amount) × Recipe Amount
Total Recipe Cost = Sum of all ingredient costs
Cost per Serving = Total Recipe Cost / Number of Servings
Example — Homemade pasta sauce:
| Ingredient | Store Price | Store Amount | Used | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canned tomatoes | $2.50 | 28 oz | 28 oz | $2.50 |
| Onion | $1.00 | 3 lb | 0.5 lb | $0.17 |
| Garlic | $0.50 | 1 head | 4 cloves | $0.25 |
| Olive oil | $8.00 | 33 oz | 2 oz | $0.48 |
| Total | $3.40 |
For 6 servings = $0.57/serving
