Words Per Minute (WPM) is the standard measure of typing speed.
WPM = (Characters Typed / 5) / Minutes Elapsed
A “word” in typing tests is standardized to 5 characters (including spaces).
Accuracy = (Correct Characters / Total Characters) × 100%
Typing speed benchmarks:
- Beginner: 20–30 WPM
- Average: 40–50 WPM
- Above average: 50–70 WPM
- Professional: 70–90 WPM
- Expert: 90–120+ WPM
