EV Charging Time Calculator

Estimate how long it takes to charge your electric vehicle based on battery capacity, current charge level, and charger power.

Estimated Charge Time

EV Charging Time depends on the battery size and charger power output.

Charge Time (hours) = Energy Needed (kWh) / Charger Power (kW)

Energy Needed = Battery Capacity × (Target % - Current %) / 100

Charger types and typical power:

  • Level 1 (Wall outlet): 1.2–1.8 kW — overnight charging
  • Level 2 (Home/Destination): 7–19 kW — 4–10 hours
  • DC Fast Charging: 50–350 kW — 20–60 minutes to 80%

Important notes:

  • Charging slows above 80% to protect battery health — the last 20% takes disproportionately longer
  • Actual speeds depend on temperature, battery condition, and vehicle limits
  • Cold weather can reduce charging speed by 20–40%
  • This calculator assumes constant charging rate up to 80%, then 50% rate above 80%
