Moving costs depend on three main factors:
1. Distance:
- Local move (under 100 miles): $800–$2,500 base
- Long distance (100–1,000 miles): $0.50–$0.80 per mile added
- Cross country (1,000+ miles): $0.40–$0.60 per mile added
2. Home Size:
- Studio/1 BR: base cost × 1.0
- 2 BR: base cost × 1.5
- 3 BR: base cost × 2.0
- 4 BR+: base cost × 2.7
3. Season:
- Peak (June–August): 20–30% more expensive
- Off-peak (Sept–May): Standard pricing
- Holidays/weekends: May add 10–15%
Additional costs to budget for:
- Packing supplies: $50–$200
- Insurance: $50–$300
- Tip for movers: 15–20% of total
