Mixing Ratio
Color mixing ratios determine how much of each paint to combine. Moving from a lighter base to a darker shade requires adding small amounts of the darker color.
Parts of Color B = (Desired Shade % - 0%) / (100% - 0%)
General mixing guidelines:
- Light tint (10–20% secondary): 1 part dark to 4–9 parts light
- Medium blend (30–50%): 1 part dark to 1–2 parts light
- Dark shade (60–80%): 2–4 parts dark to 1 part light
Tips:
- Always add the darker color to the lighter one gradually
- Mix more than you think you will need — matching later is difficult
- Test a small swatch and let it dry before committing (paint dries darker)
- For tinting white, start with just 1–2% of color and increase slowly
