Child Support Estimator
Get a simplified estimate of potential child support obligations based on income, number of children, and custody arrangement.
Child support calculations vary significantly by state, but most follow either an Income Shares or Percentage of Income model.
Simplified Percentage Model (used here):
Support = (Paying Parent Income) × (Percentage based on # of children) × (Custody Adjustment)
Typical percentages of gross income:
- 1 child: 17-20%
- 2 children: 25-28%
- 3 children: 29-33%
- 4 children: 31-35%
- 5+ children: 35-40%
Custody adjustment: The more time the non-custodial parent has, the lower the support amount may be.
Important: This is a rough estimate only. Actual amounts depend on your state’s specific formula, both parents’ incomes, healthcare costs, childcare, and other factors. Consult a family law attorney for accurate calculations.
