Seed Spacing Calculator
Calculate how many plants fit in your garden based on row length, plant spacing, row spacing, and number of rows.
Total Plants Needed
Seed spacing determines how many plants fit in your garden area.
Plants per row = floor(Row Length / Plant Spacing) + 1
Total plants = Plants per row × Number of rows
Total garden width = (Number of rows - 1) × Row Spacing
Common vegetable spacings:
- Lettuce: 6–12 in apart, rows 12 in apart
- Tomatoes: 24–36 in apart, rows 36–48 in apart
- Carrots: 2–3 in apart, rows 12 in apart
- Peppers: 18–24 in apart, rows 24–36 in apart
- Beans: 4–6 in apart, rows 18–24 in apart
- Corn: 10–12 in apart, rows 30–36 in apart
Tips:
- Always buy 10–15% extra seeds to account for germination failures
- Consider succession planting every 2–3 weeks for continuous harvest
