Dosing Schedule
Antibiotic timing matters for maintaining consistent drug levels in your bloodstream and ensuring the medication works effectively.
Interval = 24 hours / Doses Per Day
Common dosing schedules:
- Once daily (QD): Every 24 hours — same time each day
- Twice daily (BID): Every 12 hours — e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM
- Three times daily (TID): Every 8 hours — e.g., 6 AM, 2 PM, 10 PM
- Four times daily (QID): Every 6 hours — e.g., 6 AM, 12 PM, 6 PM, 12 AM
Important guidelines:
- Complete the full course even if you feel better
- Evenly space doses for consistent blood levels
- “With food” vs “empty stomach” — follow your prescription
- Set alarms to avoid missing doses
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it’s close to the next dose
