Body Frame Size

Body frame size is determined by comparing your wrist circumference to your height. This method was developed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

Method: Frame Ratio = Height (cm) / Wrist Circumference (cm)

For women:

  • Ratio > 11.0: Small frame
  • Ratio 10.1 - 11.0: Medium frame
  • Ratio < 10.1: Large frame

For men:

  • Ratio > 10.4: Small frame
  • Ratio 9.6 - 10.4: Medium frame
  • Ratio < 9.6: Large frame

Why it matters: Body frame size affects your ideal weight range. A large-framed person naturally weighs more than a small-framed person of the same height. Many ideal weight charts include adjustments for frame size.
