Formula:
Total Dose (mg) = Body Weight × Dosage per kg
Volume to Administer (mL) = Total Dose (mg) / Concentration (mg/mL)
Metric calculation:
Total Dose = Weight (kg) × Dose (mg/kg)
Imperial calculation:
Total Dose = Weight (lbs) × 0.453592 × Dose (mg/kg)
Common dosing examples:
- Ibuprofen (children): 5–10 mg/kg every 6–8 hours
- Amoxicillin: 25–50 mg/kg/day divided into doses
- Acetaminophen (children): 10–15 mg/kg every 4–6 hours
