Recommended Daily Water Intake

Daily water intake depends on body weight, activity level, and climate.

Base formula:

  • Metric: Water (liters) = Weight (kg) × 0.033
  • Imperial: Water (oz) = Weight (lbs) × 0.5

Activity multipliers:

  • Sedentary (little exercise): Base amount
  • Lightly active (1–3 days/week): Base × 1.15
  • Moderately active (3–5 days/week): Base × 1.30
  • Very active (6–7 days/week): Base × 1.45
  • Extremely active (athlete): Base × 1.60

Climate adjustment:

  • Hot or humid climate: Add 10–20% more water

General guidelines:

  • Drink water throughout the day, not all at once
  • 1 standard glass = approximately 250 ml (8 oz)
  • Fruits, vegetables, and other beverages also contribute to hydration
  • Urine color is a good indicator: pale yellow = well hydrated

Signs of dehydration:

  • Dark yellow urine
  • Thirst, dry mouth
  • Fatigue, headache
  • Dizziness
