Recommended Daily Water Intake
Daily water intake depends on body weight, activity level, and climate.
Base formula:
- Metric:
Water (liters) = Weight (kg) × 0.033 - Imperial:
Water (oz) = Weight (lbs) × 0.5
Activity multipliers:
- Sedentary (little exercise): Base amount
- Lightly active (1–3 days/week): Base × 1.15
- Moderately active (3–5 days/week): Base × 1.30
- Very active (6–7 days/week): Base × 1.45
- Extremely active (athlete): Base × 1.60
Climate adjustment:
- Hot or humid climate: Add 10–20% more water
General guidelines:
- Drink water throughout the day, not all at once
- 1 standard glass = approximately 250 ml (8 oz)
- Fruits, vegetables, and other beverages also contribute to hydration
- Urine color is a good indicator: pale yellow = well hydrated
Signs of dehydration:
- Dark yellow urine
- Thirst, dry mouth
- Fatigue, headache
- Dizziness
