Expected Milestones
Baby milestones are general guidelines from the CDC and AAP for typical child development. Every child develops at their own pace.
Key milestone categories:
- Motor skills: rolling, sitting, crawling, walking
- Language: cooing, babbling, first words, sentences
- Social/Emotional: smiling, separation anxiety, parallel play
- Cognitive: object permanence, problem-solving, pretend play
General timeline:
- 2 months: social smile, lifts head during tummy time
- 4 months: reaches for objects, laughs
- 6 months: sits with support, babbles
- 9 months: crawls, says “mama/dada”
- 12 months: pulls to stand, 1–3 words
- 18 months: walks, 10–25 words
- 24 months: runs, 2-word phrases, 50+ words
