Growth Percentiles
Growth percentiles compare your child to other children of the same age and gender. They show what percentage of children are smaller.
How to interpret percentiles:
- 50th percentile: average — half of children are smaller, half are larger
- 25th-75th percentile: normal range — most children fall here
- 5th-95th percentile: still within normal limits
- Below 5th or above 95th: may warrant discussion with pediatrician
Key points:
- Consistent growth along a percentile curve is more important than the specific percentile
- Crossing two or more major percentile lines (up or down) may need evaluation
- Genetics play a major role — tall parents tend to have taller children
- Growth spurts can cause temporary jumps between percentiles
- This calculator uses simplified reference data. For precise percentiles, consult your pediatrician with WHO/CDC growth charts.
