Pet Food Calculator
Calculate how many cups of food your pet needs per day based on weight, activity level, and food calorie density.
Daily Food Amount
Daily pet food needs are based on your pet’s Resting Energy Requirement (RER) multiplied by an activity factor.
RER = 70 × (body weight in kg) ^ 0.75
Activity multipliers:
- Low activity (senior, sedentary): × 1.2
- Normal activity (typical adult): × 1.4
- High activity (working, very active): × 1.8
Then convert to cups:
Cups per day = Daily calories needed / Calories per cup of food
Typical food calorie density:
- Dry dog food: 300–400 kcal per cup
- Dry cat food: 250–350 kcal per cup
- Wet food: 200–300 kcal per can (varies by size)
Tips:
- Always check your specific food’s label for kcal/cup
- Adjust portions based on your pet’s body condition over time
- Puppies and kittens need 2–3× adult amounts relative to body weight
