Dilution Calculator

Calculate dilution using C1×V1 = C2×V2.
Find any missing variable for solution preparation.

Dilution Result

The Dilution Equation relates the concentration and volume of a stock solution to the desired diluted solution:

C1 × V1 = C2 × V2

Where:

  • C1 = concentration of stock (starting) solution
  • V1 = volume of stock solution needed
  • C2 = concentration of diluted (final) solution
  • V2 = volume of diluted (final) solution

To find any missing variable:

  • V1 = (C2 × V2) / C1
  • C2 = (C1 × V1) / V2
  • V2 = (C1 × V1) / C2
  • C1 = (C2 × V2) / V1

Leave one field empty to solve for it.

Units must be consistent: Use the same concentration units (M, mM, %, etc.) and same volume units (mL, L, etc.) on both sides.

Example: Dilute 5M stock to make 500 mL of 0.5M solution:

  • V1 = (0.5 × 500) / 5 = 50 mL of stock + 450 mL of solvent
