Wavelength to Color Calculator
Convert a light wavelength in nanometers to its visible color name, approximate RGB value, and frequency in THz.
Visible light spans wavelengths from roughly 380 nm to 700 nm. Each wavelength corresponds to a perceived color.
Wavelength to frequency:
Frequency (THz) = Speed of light / Wavelength
Frequency = 299,792,458 m/s / (wavelength in nm × 10⁻⁹)
Visible spectrum ranges:
| Color | Wavelength (nm) | Frequency (THz) |
|---|---|---|
| Violet | 380–450 | 668–789 |
| Blue | 450–485 | 618–668 |
| Cyan | 485–500 | 600–618 |
| Green | 500–565 | 530–600 |
| Yellow | 565–590 | 508–530 |
| Orange | 590–625 | 480–508 |
| Red | 625–700 | 428–480 |
Beyond visible:
- Ultraviolet (UV): < 380 nm (higher energy)
- Infrared (IR): > 700 nm (lower energy)
Note: RGB approximations of spectral colors are limited by display technology. Monitors cannot perfectly reproduce single-wavelength spectral colors.
