Bench Press Standards

Bench Press Strength Standards are based on body weight ratios derived from competitive powerlifting data.

Unit conversions:

  • Pounds to kilograms: divide by 2.205
  • Kilograms to pounds: multiply by 2.205

Male standards (multiplier of body weight):

Level Ratio Description
Beginner 0.50× Untrained, first day in gym
Novice 0.75× 3–6 months of training
Intermediate 1.00× 1–2 years of training
Advanced 1.50× 3–5+ years of serious training
Elite 2.00× Competitive powerlifter level

Female standards (multiplier of body weight):

Level Ratio Description
Beginner 0.25× Untrained, first day in gym
Novice 0.50× 3–6 months of training
Intermediate 0.75× 1–2 years of training
Advanced 1.00× 3–5+ years of serious training
Elite 1.50× Competitive powerlifter level
