Focus / Pomodoro Calculator
Calculate how many Pomodoro-style focus sessions you need to complete a task, including break time.
Session Plan
The Pomodoro Technique uses timed focus periods followed by short breaks to maintain concentration and prevent burnout.
Formula:
Sessions Needed = Task Hours × 60 / Focus Period
Total Time = (Sessions × Focus Period) + (Sessions - 1) × Break + Long Breaks
Standard Pomodoro settings:
- Focus period: 25 minutes
- Short break: 5 minutes
- Long break: 15–30 minutes (every 4 sessions)
Variations that work well:
- 52/17 method: 52 minutes focus, 17 minutes break
- 90-minute blocks: Based on ultradian rhythms
- Deep work: 60–90 minutes focus, 15–20 minutes break
Tips for effective focus sessions:
- Remove all distractions (phone, notifications, browser tabs)
- Start with your hardest or most important task
- If interrupted, note it and return — do not restart the timer
- After 4 sessions, take a longer break (15–30 minutes)
