Pizza Party Calculator
How many pizzas to order from guest count, appetite and size.
Adjusts for side dishes, suggests a topping split, and costs the order per head.
Pizza party planning comes down to two numbers: how many slices each person eats, and how many slices come out of the size you order. Get either wrong and you have a stack of cold boxes or a queue of people looking at an empty one.
Standard pizza sizes and slices:
- Small (10 inch / 25 cm): 6 slices, feeds 1 to 2 people
- Medium (12 inch / 30 cm): 8 slices, feeds 2 to 3 people
- Large (14 inch / 36 cm): 10 slices, feeds 3 to 4 people
- Extra Large (16 inch / 41 cm): 12 slices, feeds 4 to 5 people
Average consumption by appetite:
- Light eaters: 1 to 2 slices (children, small appetites)
- Average eaters: 2 to 3 slices (most adults)
- Hungry eaters: 4 to 5 slices (teens, athletes, anyone who skipped lunch)
The area trap. A 14-inch pizza is 154 square inches. Two 10-inch pizzas come to 157 square inches between them, so one large is very nearly two smalls, and it will not be priced like two smalls. The reason is that area goes with the square of the radius, and the pizza size comparison calculator will put an actual price per square inch on whatever two sizes your local shop offers.
That also means slice counts are not comparable across sizes. A slice of a 16-inch is nearly twice the pizza of a slice of a 10-inch, so “everyone eats three slices” only means something once you have fixed the size.
Topping variety rule: For groups over 6, order at least two or three different toppings. A safe split is 40% cheese or pepperoni, 30% specialty like meat lovers or supreme, and 30% vegetarian. Under six people, skip the formula and just ask them.
Side dishes reduce pizza consumption by about 20%. Salad, wings and breadsticks all eat into the pizza count, and this calculator takes that off when you tell it there are sides.
Leftover tip: Cold pizza keeps. Running short does not have a fix at 9pm on a Saturday. Over-ordering by 10 to 15% is cheap insurance, and this page builds that cushion in.
Cost tip: Ask about party pricing. Most chains have a bulk rate at five or more pizzas that runs 15 to 25% under the individual price, and independents will usually do something similar if you order a day ahead.
