Wind force uses the standard aerodynamic expression, half the air density times velocity squared times area times a coefficient, and the squared term is what catches people out. The wind does not have to double for the pull to become a problem. Going from 10 to 15 mph, only half again as fast, more than doubles the force. A kite that was pleasant on a light breeze will take skin off your fingers in a fresh one.

Line strength belongs with the knot strength page, because a knot is where line actually fails. Every knot costs breaking strength and some cost close to half, so line rated well above the calculated pull can still part at the bridle.

Spool capacity and altitude pages allow for line sag, which is why 500 feet of line never puts a kite 500 feet up. On a good day it is closer to 350.
