Stud count gives the field count and then tells you exactly what it leaves out, which is the useful half. Wall length divided by spacing, plus one, gets the run. Real walls then need four more per door or window, two king studs and two jacks, plus cripples above the header. Every corner and T-intersection wants three extra to give a nailing surface on both sides. Plates are separate again: three per wall, which comes to three times the wall length in the same lumber.
Paint coverage depends on the surface as much as the paint. A gallon that covers 350 to 400 square feet of smooth primed drywall covers 75 to 150 on concrete or masonry. That is a factor of four, and the estimate people get wrong is nearly always the textured or porous one.
24-inch spacing saves about a quarter of the studs. Check it is allowed for the wall you are building before you order the lumber.
