Concert ticket budgeting means working out what the night actually costs, not what the ticket costs.
Face value, service fees, transportation, parking and the spending you do once you are inside all belong in the same number, which is the only way to compare two shows honestly.

True ticket cost formula: True Ticket Cost = Face Value + Service Fee + Order Processing Fee + Delivery Fee

Typical fee breakdown (Ticketmaster, StubHub, AXS, 2024):

• Service fee: 20–35% of face value
• Order processing fee: $2–$8 per order (flat)
• Delivery fee: $0 (mobile) to $25 (physical mail)

Per-person all-in cost formula: All-In Cost per Person = (Total Ticket Fees ÷ Party Size) + Transportation + Parking + Food/Drinks

Resale value estimation (secondary market): Secondary market prices fluctuate based on demand. Resale price typically converges toward face value + fees near showtime for all but the hottest events. For sold-out shows: resale = 1.5×–5× face value the week before; drops sharply day-of.

Budget breakdown guide:

• Tickets (face + fees): 40–60% of total concert budget
• Transportation (Uber, gas): 10–20%
• Parking: 5–15%
• Food and drinks (venue): 15–25%
• Merchandise: 10–20%

What each variable means:

• Face value: the price printed on the ticket; set by the venue/promoter
• Service fee: Ticketmaster’s markup; disclosed during checkout (before 2022 it was hidden until the final step)
• Verified resale: tickets resold through the primary platform at market prices; legally valid but expensive
• All-in pricing: since 2023, US law (FTC rule) requires ticket sellers to display total price including all fees upfront

Worked example:

Two people, tickets at $85 face value each, a 28% service fee and a $4 order processing charge.

Work out the fee field first, because the calculator wants one combined number per ticket: $85 × 0.28 = $23.80, plus $4 processing, so $27.80 per ticket in fees. That makes each ticket $112.80 all in, and $225.60 for the pair.

Enter it as: face 85, fees 27.80, party size 2, transportation 40 for the Uber round trip, parking 0 since you took the Uber, food and drinks 60 for two rounds between two people, merchandise 45.

• Tickets: 2 × $112.80 = $225.60
• Everything else: $40 + $0 + $60 + $45 = $145.00
• Total evening: $370.60, or $185.30 each

The tickets themselves showed a face value of $170 for the pair. The evening costs 2.2 times that. Tickets come to 61% of the night, which lands right at the top of the 40–60% the budget guides quote, and the reason is the $45 of merchandise: a tour shirt is close to half a ticket.
