Gymnastics Score Calculator

Calculate an artistic gymnastics final score from the D-score and execution deductions under FIG rules, and see exactly where a fall belongs.

Final Score

The FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) scoring system, introduced after the 2004 Athens Olympics judging controversy, uses an open-ended difficulty scale that replaced the old 10.0 maximum system.

How the score is built

D-score (Difficulty Score): the sum of difficulty values for up to the best 8 elements performed, plus connection bonuses. There is no cap. Elite gymnasts regularly post D-scores in the 5.0 to 6.5 range, and the very hardest men’s routines go higher.

E-score (Execution Score): starts at 10.0 and deductions are subtracted for execution errors. Small errors (crossed feet, bent knees) cost 0.1. Medium errors (a noticeable balance check) cost 0.3. Large errors (a step on the landing) cost 0.5. A fall costs 1.0, and it is an execution deduction.

Final score = D-score + E-score − Neutral Deductions

Do not enter a fall twice. This is the single easiest way to get the wrong number out of this page. The fall’s 1.0 belongs in the execution deductions box, because the E-panel takes it. The neutral deductions box is for a different category of penalty entirely: stepping out of bounds on floor (0.1 per occurrence), a time violation (0.1 or 0.3), the coach on the podium, incorrect attire. Put the fall in both boxes and your score comes out a full point low.

Typical score ranges

These are broad bands, and they shift by apparatus and by which code cycle you are in.

Senior international: 13.0–15.5 on most apparatus, with the strongest floor and vault routines reaching higher. National level: 11.0–13.5 Club and regional: 8.0–11.0

Worked example

A routine with a D-score of 5.4, execution deductions totalling 1.2, and no neutral deductions:

  • E-score = 10.0 − 1.2 = 8.8
  • Final = 5.4 + 8.8 − 0 = 14.200

Add a fall to that routine and it costs you twice over: the 1.0 execution deduction takes the E-score to 7.8, and you also lose whatever connection value the fall broke. The maximum E-score is 10.0, but in practice a clean senior routine rarely scores above 9.0, because tenths come off for form details a spectator never notices.

Enter the sum of all execution deductions in one box, not each one separately.
