Honeymoon Budget Calculator
Plan a honeymoon budget from your own quotes for flights, a nightly rate and daily spending, plus a buffer.
Returns the total and monthly savings.
Planning a honeymoon budget involves estimating costs across several categories and then determining how much you need to save each month to reach your goal. The total cost varies enormously by destination, duration, and spending style.
How the calculator works
Put in the prices you are actually quoted: the flights for both of you, the nightly rate, and what you expect to spend a day on food, activities and getting around. The calculator multiplies the nightly and daily figures by the number of nights, adds the flights, and puts a buffer on top for insurance, tips and the things nobody plans. Leave a price blank and that line is left out and named, so you can build the budget as the quotes come in.
It does not guess prices. Fares and room rates move every season, and a figure frozen into the page would be wrong for most trips within a year.
Worked example: 10 nights in the Caribbean. Flights for two at $900, a $320 room and $180 a day for food, activities and taxis come to 900 + 3,200 + 1,800 = $5,900. A 12% buffer brings it to $6,608, which is $367 a month if the wedding is 18 months away.
Average honeymoon costs by destination tier (per couple, 7 nights, US):
| Destination Type | Budget | Moderate | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic (US, UK, etc.) | $2,000–$3,500 | $3,500–$6,000 | $7,000–$15,000+ |
| Caribbean / Mexico | $3,000–$5,000 | $6,000–$9,000 | $12,000–$25,000+ |
| Europe | $4,000–$7,000 | $8,000–$12,000 | $15,000–$30,000+ |
| Southeast Asia | $4,000–$5,500 | $6,500–$8,500 | $11,000–$20,000+ |
| Maldives / Bora Bora | $8,000–$12,000 | $15,000–$25,000 | $28,000–$60,000+ |
The destination and style you pick above choose one range from this table, and the result prints it beside your own total as a sanity check, in US dollars, because that is what it was measured in. Southeast Asia looks expensive for what it is because the flight from North America or Europe is the single largest line, often $2,000 for two before you have booked a room.
Main cost categories:
- Flights: Typically 20–30% of total budget. Book 3–6 months in advance for best prices.
- Accommodation: Usually 30–40% of budget. All-inclusive resorts save on food/drink costs.
- Food and drink: $100–$300/day per couple depending on location and style.
- Activities and excursions: Budget $50–$200/person/day for tours, snorkeling, etc.
- Local transport: $20–$80/day for taxis, rentals, and transfers.
- Travel insurance: About 5–7% of trip cost. Essential for international travel.
- Miscellaneous (shopping, tips, surprises): Add 10–15% buffer to your total.
Monthly savings formula:
Monthly Savings Needed = Total Budget ÷ Months Until Wedding
Example: $10,000 budget, wedding in 18 months → $10,000 ÷ 18 = $556/month
Money-saving tips:
- Use honeymoon registries to receive cash gifts directly toward the trip
- Travel on weekdays, flights and hotels are often 10–30% cheaper
- Book an all-inclusive resort to control food/drink costs
- Look for “honeymoon packages”, many resorts offer free upgrades and amenities
- Consider traveling 2–4 weeks after the wedding to get better off-season rates
