MBTI-style personality typing categorizes psychological preferences across four independent dimensions, each representing a spectrum between two poles.

The four dimensions:

1. Extraversion (E) vs. Introversion (I) Where you direct your mental energy.

  • E: energized by social interaction, external stimulation
  • I: energized by solitude, internal reflection

2. Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N) How you take in information.

  • S: focuses on concrete facts, present reality, step-by-step detail
  • N: focuses on patterns, future possibilities, abstract concepts

3. Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F) How you make decisions.

  • T: prioritizes logic, objective analysis, consistency
  • F: prioritizes values, empathy, harmony

4. Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P) How you approach the outer world.

  • J: prefers structure, planning, closure
  • P: prefers flexibility, spontaneity, keeping options open

How this quick version scores you: One question per dimension, four answers each. The outer two answers sit at the strong end of a pole, the inner two at the moderate end:

Answer position Letter Lean reported
1st first pole (E, S, T, J) Strong
2nd first pole (E, S, T, J) Moderate
3rd second pole (I, N, F, P) Moderate
4th second pole (I, N, F, P) Strong

So the letter comes from which half you picked, and the lean comes from how far out in that half you went. A “Moderate” lean means you sit near the middle of that spectrum and could easily answer the other way on a different day. Full instruments ask 20 or more questions per dimension and report a percentage; with one question each, a lean label is as much precision as the answers actually support.

The 16 types combine one letter from each pair: ISTJ · ISFJ · INFJ · INTJ · ISTP · ISFP · INFP · INTP ESTP · ESFP · ENFP · ENTP · ESTJ · ESFJ · ENFJ · ENTJ

Worked example: Someone picks the 4th answer on energy (quiet corner), the 4th on learning (theory and possibilities), the 2nd on decisions (pros and cons list), and the 1st on weekends (planned in advance). That reads I, N, T, J. Result: INTJ, “The Architect”, with a strong lean on I, N and J and only a moderate one on T. The T is the letter most likely to flip if you retook it.

Important caveat: MBTI-style types are useful self-reflection tools, not rigid boxes. Personality is fluid and context-dependent. Use results as a starting point, not a final label.
