Birthday Calculator
Find your exact age, the day of the week you were born, days until your next birthday, and whether you were born on a leap year date.
Exact age calculation goes beyond counting years. A precise age in years, months, and days accounts for varying month lengths, leap years, and the exact calendar date, giving the true elapsed time between a birth date and today (or any target date).
The quick way, and why it is not quite right: Age in years ≈ floor((Today’s Date − Birth Date) ÷ 365.25)
The 365.25 accounts for the average leap year effect. It is close, but it can hand you the wrong number within a day or two of your birthday, because your actual birthdays are not spaced 365.25 days apart. This calculator does it the other way, by comparing calendar dates directly, so the answer flips on the correct day every time.
Precise years + months + days method:
- Start with full years: Count complete calendar years elapsed since birth.
- Remaining months: From the birth-month anniversary in the final year to the current month, count complete calendar months.
- Remaining days: Days elapsed since the last full-month anniversary.
Special case: leap day birthdays (February 29)
Countries split on this. Most common law jurisdictions treat 1 March as the legal birthday in a non-leap year; several others, including much of continental Europe, use 28 February. There is no single right answer.
This calculator rolls forward to 1 March in non-leap years, so that is the date it counts down to. It also tells you which year your next real 29 February falls in, since that is usually the number leaplings actually want.
Interesting age milestones:
- 1,000 days old: about 2 years and 9 months
- 10,000 days old: about 27 years and 5 months
- 1 billion seconds old: about 31 years and 8 months
- 1,000,000 hours old: about 114 years, so nobody is getting there
Age in other units:
- Total days: (Today − Birth Date), directly computable from calendar date arithmetic
- Total weeks: Total days ÷ 7
- Total months (approximate): Years × 12 + months remainder
- Total hours: Total days × 24
Worked example: Born 15 March 1990, counted to 8 October 2025.
- Full years: 2025 − 1990 = 35, and the 15 March birthday has already passed, so it stays 35 years
- Whole months since the 15 March anniversary: April through September, so 6 months
- Days since 15 September: 23 days
- Exact age: 35 years, 6 months, 23 days
Total days is a separate sum, and the reliable way is to count leap days rather than trust an average. From 15 March 1990 to 15 March 2025 is 35 years containing 9 leap days (1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024), so 35 × 365 + 9 = 12,784 days. From 15 March to 8 October is another 207. 12,991 days.
The 365.25 average happens to land within a day here, because this span includes 2000, which was a leap year despite ending in 00. Cross 1900 or 2100 instead and the average is a full day out, since those century years skip their leap day.
That puts the 13,000-day milestone nine days after this snapshot, on 17 October 2025.
