The Formula:
Calories Burned = MET × Body Weight (kg) × Duration (hours)
MET Values for Motorcycle Riding:

These are the five styles the calculator offers. Off-road tops the list because it demands constant body input, while relaxed highway miles sit lowest.
MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) is a standard measurement used by exercise physiologists. A MET of 1.0 = calories burned at rest per kg per hour.
Worked Example:
- Rider weight: 80 kg
- Riding type: Sport riding (MET = 5.0)
- Duration: 2 hours
Calories = 5.0 × 80 × 2 = 800 kcal
The same rider doing relaxed highway cruising for 2 hours:
Calories = 3.5 × 80 × 2 = 560 kcal
Factors That Increase Calorie Burn:
- Heavy gear (jacket, boots, helmet) adds thermal stress
- Off-road terrain requires constant active input
- Heat and cold both increase metabolic demand
- Longer rides cause cumulative muscle fatigue
Practical Tips:
- Hydrate properly. Gear traps heat, and riders can lose 500 to 1000 mL an hour in summer
- Core strength training directly improves rider endurance and reduces fatigue
- At highway speeds, wind resistance actually reduces physical exertion compared to urban riding
