Wedding Flower Budget Calculator
Estimate wedding flower costs from bouquet count, centerpiece type, and boutonniere count.
Returns a line-item floral budget with low-end and high-end pricing.
Wedding flowers break into three jobs: what the wedding party carries, what dresses the ceremony, and what sits on the reception tables. Pricing them as separate lines is the only way to see where the money actually goes, and it is almost never where people expect.
Total flower budget formula: Total = Bouquets + Boutonnieres + Ceremony Flowers + Reception Centerpieces + Miscellaneous
Centerpieces are the line that decides your total. A bridal bouquet at $250 feels like the expensive item because it is the single most expensive object. It is not the expensive line. Fifteen centerpieces at $130 is $1,950, nearly eight times the bouquet, and the number of them is set by your table count rather than by any floral decision. This is why cutting a wedding from 15 tables to 12, by seating ten per table instead of eight, quietly saves more on flowers than downgrading every stem in the order would.
The same logic applies to boutonnieres, which people consistently undercount. It is not the groom and groomsmen: it is fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, ushers, readers and often the officiant. A five-groomsman wedding routinely needs ten or twelve.
Typical item costs (US, mid-market florist, 2024):
- Bridal bouquet: $150–$350
- Bridesmaid bouquet: $65–$150 each
- Boutonniere: $25–$55 each
- Corsage: $35–$65 each
- Ceremony arch/backdrop: $400–$1,500
- Altar arrangements (pair): $200–$600
- Aisle pew markers: $15–$45 each
- Reception centerpiece (low): $80–$200 each
- Reception centerpiece (tall): $200–$500 each
- Cocktail hour arrangements: $50–$150 each
Worked example: Wedding party: 1 bride, 4 bridesmaids, 5 groomsmen Reception: 15 tables, mixed low/tall centerpieces
- Bridal bouquet: $220
- Bridesmaid bouquets (4 × $100): $400
- Boutonnieres (5 × $40): $200
- Ceremony arch: $700
- Pew markers (10 × $25): $250
- Centerpieces (15 × $130): $1,950 Subtotal: $3,720 Florist design/labor fee (15%): $558 Total: $4,278
Note the design and labour fee at the end. Most florists charge 10 to 20% on top of the stems for design, delivery, setup and collection, and it is easy to miss when you are comparing quotes. Check whether a quote includes it before you decide one florist is cheaper than another.
Budget-saving options, roughly in order of how much they save:
- Choose what is in season. Peonies in October or garden roses in February are flown in, and the same look costs two to three times more. Ask your florist what is good on your date before you commit to a photograph you found online.
- Repurpose the ceremony flowers. Altar arrangements and aisle markers can move to the reception during cocktail hour. Ask whether the florist will do this and what they charge for it, because someone has to physically carry them.
- Lean on greenery. Eucalyptus and foliage-heavy arrangements run 30 to 40% below all-bloom, and they photograph beautifully.
- Dried and preserved flowers have gone from unfashionable to sought-after, cost 20 to 50% less, and have the useful property of surviving the whole day in a hot marquee.
- Fewer, larger centerpieces beat one per table. Alternating a tall arrangement with a cluster of candles down a long table looks deliberate and halves the flower count.
