Wedding Registry Value Calculator

Calculate total wedding registry value and average gift price across low, mid, and high-tier items.
Helps couples balance options for guests at every budget.

Used only to check the registry is big enough. The guideline is 1.5 to 2 items per guest, so late RSVPs still find something to buy.

Registry Summary

A wedding registry is a curated list of gifts the couple hopes to receive. The two questions worth answering before you publish one are whether it holds enough items for the number of people invited, and whether the prices are spread widely enough that nobody is embarrassed by their options.

How this page works You enter how many items you have listed in each price band. Because a band is a range and not a number, the page gives you a range rather than a single fabricated total: what the registry comes to if every item sits at the bottom of its band, and if every item sits at the top. Where the truth lands between those depends on your list, and no calculator can know that.

Formulas: Low Estimate = Σ(items in band × bottom of band) High Estimate = Σ(items in band × top of band) Average Gift Value = Estimate ÷ Number of Items Remaining = Estimate × (1 − Percentage Purchased)

Registry composition guidelines:

  • Spread the price points: $25–$50 for guests on a budget, $75–$150 for most people, $200–$500 for close family.
  • Register for roughly 1.5 to 2 items per guest. Fewer than that and late RSVPs find an empty list, which is the single most common registry complaint.
  • Include both practical items and one or two aspirational things. Groups club together for the expensive item more often than couples expect.

Worked example: 120 guests. The registry holds 10 items under $25, 15 between $25 and $50, 12 between $50 and $100, 8 between $100 and $250 and 5 over $250. That is 50 items against a guideline of 180 to 240, so the list is well short and needs roughly three times as many entries.

The low estimate is (10 × $10) + (15 × $25) + (12 × $50) + (8 × $100) + (5 × $250) = $3,125. The high estimate is (10 × $25) + (15 × $50) + (12 × $100) + (8 × $250) + (5 × $500) = $6,700.

Both open bands need a working figure, and those are the only two numbers on this page that are not yours. The bottom band uses $10 as a floor, because a registry item costing nothing is not a thing. The top band uses $500 as a ceiling. If your most expensive item is a $2,000 sofa, add the difference by hand.

Tip: mark items received as soon as they arrive. Most platforms hide purchased items from other guests automatically, and the ones that do not are how couples end up with three toasters.
