Passport photos, a service-centre or biometric fee, notarised bank statements, courier return. These vary by country and by whether you apply online or in person, so they are yours to fill in rather than guessed at here.
USD USD only, because Consulates publish these visa fees in US dollars, and that is the figure you are charged regardless of where you apply from. Converting them would only introduce a rate that is not the one on the receipt..

Visa Information

Visa cost estimation for international travel requires accounting for the official government fee, service/processing fees (if applying through a visa center), any required biometric or appointment fees, and travel insurance that many countries now require.

Total Visa Cost Formula:

Total Cost = Government Fee + Service Center Fee + Biometric Fee + Document Prep Costs

Common visa fees by region (approximate, changes frequently):

Destination Visa Type Government Fee
United States B-1/B-2 Tourist $185
United Kingdom Standard Visitor £115 (~$145)
Schengen (EU) Short-stay C €80 (~$88)
Australia eVisitor Free (online)
India e-Visa (30-day) $25
India e-Visa (1-year) $80
China Single-entry $140
Canada Visitor Visa CAD $100 (~$73)

Additional cost components:

  • VFS/CIBT service fee (if required): $25–$80
  • Biometric enrollment fee (many countries): $25–$85
  • Photo requirements: 2–4 passport photos at ~$12–$20 at print shops
  • Travel insurance (mandatory for Schengen): $2–$5/day per person
  • Bank statement notarization: $15–$50
  • Expedited processing surcharge: Often 2× the standard fee

Worked example, using the destinations in the dropdown above: Two travellers applying for a Chinese tourist visa, standard processing. Government fee: $140 each × 2 = $280 Other costs, entered as $50 each for photos and the visa-centre service fee: $100 Total: $380, and about 4 to 5 business days.

Choose expedited and the fee rises to $185 each, so $370 for the pair, a $90 surcharge to halve the wait. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on how close to the flight you have left it, which is an argument for not leaving it close to the flight.

Note on the fee table above versus the calculator. The table lists the places people ask about most, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Schengen. The dropdown covers the ones with a single flat published tourist fee that a calculator can state honestly. Schengen deliberately is not there: the fee is only about a third of what you actually pay, the rest being the visa-centre and biometric charges, which differ by country, by city, and by whether you go in person. For Schengen, budget the €80 plus $80 to $150 of extras and book the appointment early, because in summer the appointment slot is the scarce thing, not the money.

Processing time affects total cost: Standard processing: typically 5 to 15 business days. Expedited: 1 to 5 days, usually a 50 to 100% surcharge, though four of the ten destinations here charge nothing extra and simply move you up the queue. Always apply at least 6 to 8 weeks before travel, and earlier for peak season.
