Fire and Air feed each other, Earth and Water do the same, so an Aries draws Leo and Sagittarius from its own element and Gemini from Air. Why the dates shift by a day some years: the sun does not cross into Aries at the same clock moment every March. The equinox drifts across roughly a 24-hour window depending on where the year sits in the leap cycle, so a birthday on the 20th or 21st can genuinely belong to either sign depending on the year and the timezone you were born in. Anyone born within a day of a boundary is on what astrologers call the cusp, and the honest answer is to check an ephemeris for your birth year rather than trust any fixed table, including the one above.

A note on precession: Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is anchored to the seasons rather than to the actual constellations. Because the Earth wobbles on its axis over a 26,000-year cycle, the constellations have drifted roughly one full sign since these dates were set in antiquity. So the sun is very likely not in the constellation your sign names. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac and corrects for this, which is why it often assigns people a different sign.
