Fantasy Football Points Calculator

Fantasy sports points are calculated by assigning point values to real-world athletic statistics (touchdowns, yards gained, goals scored, batting averages) and summing them for each player on your fantasy roster. Different leagues use different scoring systems, so understanding the math lets you evaluate player value accurately.

General formula: Fantasy Points = Σ(Stat Category × Point Value per Unit)

Standard NFL fantasy scoring (example):

• Passing TD = 4 pts
• Passing yard = 0.04 pts (1 pt per 25 yards)
• Rushing TD = 6 pts
• Rushing yard = 0.1 pts (1 pt per 10 yards)
• Receiving TD = 6 pts
• Receiving yard = 0.1 pts
• Reception (PPR leagues) = 1 pt
• Interception thrown = −2 pts
• Fumble lost = −2 pts

PPR vs. Standard scoring:

• Standard: only yards and TDs count. Favors high-volume rushers and red-zone targets.
• PPR (Points Per Reception): adds 1 point per catch. Dramatically increases the value of slot receivers and pass-catching running backs.
• Half-PPR: 0.5 pts per reception. A common compromise.

Worked example, a quarterback: 312 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 interception, plus 18 rushing yards and no rushing score.

• Passing yards: 312 × 0.04 = 12.48 pts
• Passing TDs: 3 × 4 = 12 pts
• Interception: 1 × −2 = −2 pts
• Rushing yards: 18 × 0.1 = 1.8 pts Total = 12.48 + 12 − 2 + 1.8 = 24.28 fantasy points

No receptions, so standard, half-PPR and full PPR all read 24.28. Enter those five numbers above and the panel reproduces it line by line.

Worked example, a pass-catching running back: 14 receptions, 96 receiving yards, 41 rushing yards, 1 receiving TD.

• Receiving yards: 96 × 0.1 = 9.6 pts
• Rushing yards: 41 × 0.1 = 4.1 pts
• Receiving TD: 1 × 6 = 6 pts
• Standard total = 19.7 pts
• Half-PPR: 19.7 + (14 × 0.5) = 26.7 pts
• Full PPR: 19.7 + 14 = 33.7 pts

Fourteen points of difference between two formats on the same afternoon. That gap is the whole argument about PPR, and it is why a player can be a mid-round pick in one league and a second-rounder in another.

DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) context: DraftKings and FanDuel both use full PPR for their main NFL contests, but the details differ enough to matter. DraftKings adds a 3-point bonus for 300 passing yards and for 100 rushing or receiving yards, and charges −1 for an interception rather than −2. FanDuel pays half a point per reception in most contests and awards no yardage bonuses at all. Neither of those is what a home league does. Check your own scoring page before you draft, not after.
