Soccer Stats Calculator
Calculate soccer performance metrics from season stats: goals per 90 minutes, assist rate, goal involvement percentage, and shooting accuracy rate.
Goals and assists on their own tell you very little, because a player who came off the bench 30 times is not comparable to one who played every minute. Rate stats fix that.
Goals per game: Goals per Game = Total Goals ÷ Games Played
Per 90 minutes: Per 90 = (Total ÷ Minutes Played) × 90
This is the number professional analysts actually use. Games played counts a 5-minute cameo the same as a full 90, so a substitute’s per-game figures look terrible while their per-90 figures may be excellent. Anyone with fewer than about 600 minutes should be read with caution either way, because one lucky week distorts a small sample badly.
Goal involvement: Involvement = Goals + Assists Involvement % = ((Goals + Assists) ÷ Team Goals) × 100
The percentage is the one worth knowing. Being directly involved in a third of everything your team scores is a genuinely elite season at any level.
Shooting: Shot Accuracy = (Shots on Target ÷ Total Shots) × 100 Conversion Rate = (Goals ÷ Total Shots) × 100
Keep those two apart. Accuracy asks whether you hit the target; conversion asks whether the ball went in. A striker can be excellent at one and poor at the other, and the fix is different in each case.
Worked example: A winger plays 30 games, 2,100 minutes, scoring 12 and assisting 8. The team scored 61 in total. They took 74 shots, 31 on target.
- Goals per 90 = (12 ÷ 2,100) × 90 = 0.51
- Goals + assists per 90 = (20 ÷ 2,100) × 90 = 0.86
- Involvement % = (20 ÷ 61) × 100 = 32.8%
- Shot accuracy = (31 ÷ 74) × 100 = 41.9%
- Conversion = (12 ÷ 74) × 100 = 16.2%
That is a strong season. A goal involvement every 105 minutes is roughly what a good Premier League winger produces.
xG, or expected goals: Modern analysis leans on xG (expected goals), which assigns a probability from 0 to 1 to each shot based on position, angle, body part and the type of pass that created it. A shot from six yards straight in front might carry an xG of 0.75, a speculative 30-yarder about 0.03. Add them up and you have how many goals an average finisher would have scored from those same chances. Score well above your xG for a season and it is usually finishing plus luck, and the luck half tends not to repeat.
Rough benchmarks, per 90 minutes:
- Elite striker: 0.60 or more goals
- Good starting forward: 0.35 to 0.55
- Creative midfielder: 0.30 or more assists
- Full-backs and wingers are best judged on goals plus assists combined, not either alone
- Elite-league shot accuracy sits around 33 to 45%, and conversion around 10 to 15%
